Managing Conflicts Program

Managing Conflicts Program

Why learn about Managing Conflicts?

It is said that we encounter on an average five conflicts a day! Conflicts are inseparable part of our life. Listening, communicating purposefully, understanding people and influencing them are skills that need to be developed consciously to succeed in career as well as in personal life. Managing inter-group conflicts is also a skill that managers have to develop to achieve their goals effectively.

Participants will gain insights in these aspects of conflict management through discussions on case studies and role plays in this Managing Conflicts program.

What is Conflict Management?

Managing conflicts is a skill which greatly enhances a person’s effectiveness. Broadly speaking conflicts represent a tug of war between people or groups with different needs, agenda, beliefs etc. It may not be possible to resolve all conflicts. But we need to learn to manage conflicts so that we avoid counter-productive escalation. This involves acquiring skills of resolving conflicts, awareness of our conflict management proclivities, listening and communicating. It also requires skills of helping teams evolving rules for ironing out differences.

About AROEHAN (NGO)

Aroehan is a grassroots organisation that aims to bring about sustainable change in tribal communities in the Jawhar-Mokhada blocks of the newly formed Palghar district of Maharashtra. AROEHAN is striving to bring sustainable changes to the tribal communities. In 2005-06, 169 children below the age of six died in Mokhada due to malnutrition. This led to foundation of Aroehan. It started then as an initiative to curb malnutrition. AROEHAN became aware about the multiplicity and inter-contentedness of various factors that contribute to high malnutrition deaths. It required a shift in strategy and AROEHAN currently works on an integrated approach of development in areas of Right to Health, Education, Livelihood and Good Governance. [www.aroehan.org]. Today, out of 28 Gram panchayats in Mokhada, Aroehan works in 12 Gram Panchayats of Mokhada and 9 Gram Panchayats in Jawhar Taluka of Maharashtra.
