There are 2 extreme sides of our THOUGHTS & ACTIONS which are: demonic and Godly. Which one we want to grow in us depends on us individually! If a person moves towards extreme demonic side & starts affecting innocent people then he should be treated as Lord Rama did to Ravana. Note Ravana was given options and a time period to reform!

As for eating fish, I liked Amitabhs version in 'Chini Kam'!

Life and death are not be decided by us but by nature and the supernatural. Taking this argument, it would mean that if someone kills/commits a crime, he should be let go as he has done some thing that has come naturally to him. I find it difficult to go by the above. If someone kills my loved ones, my blood would boil and if the law does not provide justice, I will get it anyways.

But there are things more than just feeling that might influence the policy makers.

Economics: Why spend a fortune building and maintaining a facility to contain such criminals?

Social: Slip up in getting these acts to justice would only lead to more and more people committing such crimes. Imagine a illiterate homeless who does not find job anywhere. He can conveniently kill someone just for the heck of it and get a safe place to stay and food to eat and live his life better than what otherwise would have been.

I strongly believe that one human being cannot (should not / has no right to) take the life of another. And this has been articulated many a time in many of my earlier posts.

Be it in whatever name : terrorism, war, crime etc etc, and Justice too!

The argument that the heinousness of a crime committed somehow grants the grand right of taking away a life does not cut ice with my thinking. It seems to be as heinous as the crime in itself !

We must take a pause and check as to what kind of Justice we administer, the intent, the application and the consequences !!

We need to bring a greater level of debate and awareness to society at large !

As usual, a post from you that makes me think !!

Dear U K [Ugich Konitari]
I will keep thinking about the points which you have made so well, and articulated convincingly. Insightful. I do agree with you. And thanks for your comments.
Vivek

Two points.

Animal sacrifice appears to be voluntary and involuntary (on the part of humans).(Note : I am a pure vegetarian).

Voluntary, is butchering of animals to eat them, as in mutton, chicken, fish etc. Involuntary is the killing of insects in the process of human living. In both cases, its part of this Darwinian thing of the fittest species surviving, by anhilating the weaker.

You cannot compare killing a human as a natural extension of this size-of-animal theory. We have facilities in the brain that allow us to think and reason, a developed cortex. Having said this, those that avoid usage of this great brain facility and use only brawn to settle scores, need a different kind of judging.

Personally , in Billa, Ranga, and the Abhyankar murder cases, I had a distinct feeling that they all got the punishment they deserved.

What bothers me and muddies this argument is that in India, there are considerations, other than the heinousness of the crime, and 100% proven guilt, that decide on capital punishment.

A good post that makes you think....
