Mouth Watering menu
Reproduced below is what I read in the magazine of Singapore Airlines, the in flight reading material, it shocked me:
‘Claride’s, London has one of the most extensive water menus. Prices range from US$ 10 to 21 a bottle….. Sommelier Pierre Legrandois of Pierre at Mandarin Oriental blind-tasted more than 60 varieties of water before choosing nine. In Singapore, French Restaurant Jaan, in Swissotel, The Stamford is launching a water menu with 17 varieties.
Water is becoming like wine, every guest asks for a particular brand’
I never knew what a ‘mouth watering menu’ meant; now I have understood!
Vivek
Well we need to reach this idea to Laalu. We just need to brand the water available at each railway station and we will truly have the widest set of branded water that blind tests and tastes different. Guess the fascination about water abroad is so because they drink so little of it. Water as water is consumed more in the developing countries and because it is such a common need it is not branded much.
Laalu has work cut for his next term
I guess this will also bring about a change in usage of English phrases..!
What would happen to…’watered down version’
or to ‘watering hole’
or to ‘fish out of water’
or to ‘come hell or high water’ !!
Because when water gets many kinds of positioning in the minds of people, it sure is going to take a different tone to decipher !
🙂
My first reaction to this was that, this was , as my late mother would have said, (and as we say in marathi) , “fajilpana” …:-)
My second reaction is still the same.
Dear Kavi and U K,
Kavi expects this idea of branding water will not hold water!
And U K’s comment is precisely what I too felt after reading the article in Singapore Airlines. I tried explaining what ‘Fajilpana’ was to Kavi and must say I failed completely. Some words just cannot be translated!
Thanks for your comments
Vivek
maybe :
Fajilpana = Blatant Shameless pseudosmartness
Well I have paid Rs.80 + taxes for just one bottle of bisleri at Salt Water Grill, Girgaum chowpatty.
Thanks Harikrishanaji, Ugich Konitari and Kavi for your comments.
And of course thanks to the Anonymous, I hope you are reading this response.
