Tell me, Why?
I read this poem, [in “Teaching Children Sensitivity” by Lina and Richard Eyre] and liked it so much that I am posting it on my blog. There is a question in my mind which I have put at the end. Can you help me find the answer please?
Vacation
by Joshua Eyre [Age 10]
Vacation is a bored tiger
getting freed from his nasty cage.
Vacation is a raccoon
freeing itself from
a hunter’s trap.
Vacation is your friend
getting out of jail.
Vacation is a tree
Leaving its leaves and branches
blow free in the cool breeze.
Vacation is playing
my favourite free song
on the piano.
Can somebody tell me why does it resonate so well with a retired person like me?
Vivek
That it will resonate well with you needs no telling sir !
With a song on your lips, and free from the 'hunters trap' & such else i am sure it resonates well with you !!
The free song on the piano & the new strokes with the paint brush are now a reality.
For some reason..some odd reason at that the third line and the cape of Good hope !!
😀
and it totally resonates to a person of my age too…vacation is wild, takes me thru the highs and lows and leaves me feeling complete.
Thanks for sharing!! Very well written poem…
It can resonate well with a person of any age-as long as the child in him/her is still there! 🙂
Lovely poem! And you are so lucky that you can find time to do all the things you wanted too, including sharing this poem with us 'in our cages.'Enjoy your vacation.
And I loved Manju's perceptive comment.
The child must have written this poem at the beginning of the vacation!today i see a lot of "thinking similarities"between a school child and a office going person.both of them literally crave for a vacation.i feel, why the child's words in this beautiful poem seem to reflect your feelings is because you too seem to be at the beginning of your long awaited vacation after your retirement!am i right sir??indeed a beautiful poem!
Maybe it resonates so well with you because you have the freedom that comes with retirement ~ that sense that you are free from the cage, not trapped in a job, you can open your arms and enjoy the breeze and make your own music. How wonderful!
She skipped along
holding his hand,
smelling the flowers,
the butterflies,
the songs,
as
he pondered
about colors
and conflicts
amidst
the human zoo swirling
resourcefully
about him.
Today,
he walks free,
smelling the coffee,
the early morning dew,
and the freshness
of new books
bought for school,
as
once again,
she skips,
but a
straight path to school,
the beginning
of an ordered life,
as he
walks free,
enjoying the
flowers, and leaves,
the birds,
and wishes,
that he could skip like her…
Nice one, Sir.
You are always young at heart. I can't see you otherwise
Beautiful!:)
hmmm, maybe becos' u're actually free in so many senses…enjoy yr vacation and tell us abt it!:)
Hi VP, I'm glad I stopped at your blog. I liked it for these reasons:
1.You write well
2.It's nicely done up
3.Your professional field is same as mine-HR
4.You use the word RESONANCE many a times and I use often time as well.
🙂
About the resonance of the poem theme with retirement.. I disagree a little bit..Ask me.. Vacation works wonders for all ages.. right from children to older people..It's gender free and age free entity !
Is it because for many, retirement turns out be a long vacation that is worse than the drudgery of going to office every day? If that be the case, one has to get out of the cage / trap / jail, perhaps even from one's own roots.
Visited your blog for the first time. I find that you have to say something interesting on a wide range of subjects. Thanks.
