IT Professionals need unions too, they should shred any superiority complex. Accept the fact that they are selling their labour. But in good old days workers sold manual labour, but IT professionals in the information era, are selling their mental skills. UNITES Professionals should be appealing to these employees and their approach to trade unionism should be distinctly different from the old guard party political and ideology centered trade unionism in India. I am greatful to Karthik B'coz he stood up for me when I was fired from my organisation and fought on my behalf to get my dues. UNITES is fighting for rights in an industry which is covered by glass walls.

philip bowyer says there is no reason to revert to old style trade unions. IT professionals through an organisation like UNITES can build thier own organisation operating in the way they want. But the only way to do that is to join it and make your voice heard. Good Luck

I would agree to the fact of protection of "Employee rights" (if such a thing exists beyond "natural rights" of all human beings)and unionism as a way to initiate a debate of sorts, but hope that we do not revert to the olden days of militant unionism.

Given a different demographic crowd in the IT/ITES fraternity, i think the working of a union should also be unique. Its interesting to note that firms have IT/ITES unions in the west.
