Excellent articles. For some reason, I started with Tea and ended up with coffee with Beer in between. After reading the three - I was hoping that you will follow up with a piece on Guinness beer which naturally follows black tea and black coffee. Now the research is proving that stout beer like Guinness is good for health too as is coffee and tea.

There used to be these Chai shops that sold a Chai called "Rajwadi" which have quietly disappeared. There was one in Kings Circle just behind the bus stops and one in Matunga market - well - I am from that part of the world. Thankfully Koolar and Co. is a hold out Irani Chai place in Kings Circle. I grew up close to one behind VJTI and I miss the chai there.

Now I am in Chennai, and there is no dearth of good coffee here in all its forms - roasted beans, unroasted beans, grind, ready to drink etc. At the same time when my parents visit me from Bombay and Matunga, they bring the grinds from Mysore Concerns to Chennai!!

There is a bunch of my friends who used to visit a restaurant and beer place in South Bombay with an interesting name that preceded the Villan's name!! - Mocambo. We used to have the first Wednesday of the month ritual visit there. Its gone and sorely missed.
Fantastic Vivek. Enjoyed it thoroughly. The sky is cloudy and monsoon breezes are blowing - not a drop of rain though. The weather lent the perfect mood to reading about coffee, and mercifully coffee time is just about half an hour away. :-D Loved the expansion of SIES college. LOL. Nice, nostalgic down memory lane - Matunga, coffee shops, "Mamas" walking in their dhotis to buy peaberry with chicory. Sadly Baristas and Cafe Coffee Day are not a blot on the real thing and cannot quite lather up the ambience of an India Coffee House. True, coffee can never be the same again.

Some weeks back i landed in Singapore early in the morning and driven by habit, i started itching for "my morning cup of tea". I asked my friends whether there would be a Tapri around (something like Navina Tea Stall outside our office :)). But i had no luck!
My friends and me landed up in Starbucks to have some breakfast and guess what i chose to drink - Tea over coffee :). It tasted wonderful - though i am not sure whether i liked it because of the lack of choice or because it was good. So what passed finally was that i was landing up in Starbucks every morning and every evening to have this particular cup of tea. I even went to a nearby store and got myself some Chinese tea packets and Australian milk so that i could make myself tea anytime of the day. Only on the last evening did i realize that i had been to Starbucks multiple times but i had not as yet had their coffee. So finally i convinced one of my friends to accompany me and both of us had coffee at Starbucks. But the tea tasted better :D.
So i don't agree with you sir - Tea's the Real Thing! Not Coffee! :D
Btw, when i read the term "The Real Thing" i was reminded of "The Zing Thing" - the Gold Spot tagline, though i am not sure why :).
