As the case of South west airlines puts it, having these policies is only one and easy part of the game. However implementing these ideas to practice will be a very difficult. Especially for a country like ours which has labour intensive operations.
To arrive at a transparent and trusting work environment - at a macro level the deterrents will be
1. Lack of skilled labour leading to inefficiencies in operations
2. Lack of automation leading to more tedious work profiles
3. High inflation leading to higher demands on wages and benefits
At the micro level - will be competence of HR managers to manage unions and work force especially in certain pockets of the country who are by nature aggressive and are influenced more by external entities
I think we have a long way to go in this aspect of managing unionised work force - needless to mention the latest incident of Maruti, Manesar plant episode

Yamini
Class of 2007 - 2009 TISS

Sounds too polished / idealistic!
Kudos to the people who managed to create this kind of environment.
How can this envn be created where the relations are already strained and there is distrust between management and union.
Does history of a particular society / country has any role to play in framing the basic mindsets of employer and the employed. Do we have such success storied (bigger ones) in India or say in Africa or even in Europe.
