This one from Girish.....

Dear Sir,

It's always enriching and thought provoking to see your posts on all topics. However, I have noticed that never you've mentioned the name "Tata Steel" in any of the industrial harmony case.

I've learnt that this is one such organisation that boasts of "100 years of industrial harmony". But there must be something, because of which you prefer to miss the name of Tata Steel. This something makes me curious to know what is it.

Regards.
Girish

Thanks Mr George. Very interesting comment "The pecking order as I see it today is a hangover of capitalistic social hierarchy." I feel like substituting the word 'feudal' for 'capitalistic!'
Vivek

I held an IR exposure role for a little over 5 years. It would intrigue me then, that CEOs would have the first and last say via veto or financial largesse, and at best they had IR managers as sounding boards and boundary managers with government officials. The pecking order as I see it today is a hangover of capitalistic social hierarchy. IR managers are effective shock-absorbers when they authentically portray opinions from both sides of the social divide. Their inventiveness however could go unrecognized as your post suggests.

Workers efforts at advancing self-improvements in individual or collective zones are also under-reported. A handheld smart-phone is more powerful today than the tool-down strike or the overt militant posture that unions at times resort to. Google Financials is a radical transparency for listed companies that as information source makes unions aware and intelligent. My view is that the psychological contract and the social compact with unions have been left to nature, and very few CEOs have led from the front on this in India.

Thanks you for conveying your insights over virtual media. Invaluable.
