I had a major epiphanic moment this morning. The better half answered a phone call and I (as usual :-P) asked who it was. He told me of a patient who had the same surgery as I had in 2012. But she was not so lucky. Her implant got infected and she is now bedridden and dependent. He tells me it will take her at least 2 years to get out of bed. Believe me Vivek, even at that moment when I was wondering whether we had done the right thing (before the second surgery), I did not get such a severe shock as I did this morning. Just the thought of what could have been and what mercifully is not makes me feel so humbled and grateful! Such events are a real wake up call.
