I have met all these judges you have mentioned in my career with Asian Paints, except ofcourse Hon’ble Justice Krishna Iyer who is my idol. His English vocabulary especially in the cases like Gujarat Steel Tubes, and Hussainbhai required one to sit with a dictionary. Till date I remember Justice Krishna Iyer quoting Gandhiji in Gujarat Steel Tubes ” A poor man sees God in a loaf of bread” alluding to the readers to think twice before terminating workmen.

I remember Justice Hemant Gokhale, both when he was a lawyer and later a Judge. Very simple, unassuming human being and very sharp and well read which came out when he was in the Courts.

Had the privilege and pleasure to spend time with Hon’ble Justice Srikrishna, a very erudite scholar and a person with a great sense of conviction.

Actually looking back,the little that I know happened in those Labour ,Industrial and High Courts.

Thanks Patwardhan Sir for reminding me of those days when we learnt a lot just listening to the lawyers and Judges. I remember you instructing me to spend time at the High Courts, and thereafter finding out what I understood.

Filled with joy recalling those moments of true learning which you and your article enabled.

You have recorded an important observation about the distance between a common man and a judge. The distance is inevitable and desired too. Read rightly, it is an important requirement of a judge to keep a distance from the differing points of views and influences to be able to deliver fine justice.

From what I know of you, you too would have been a very good judge!
