I fully endorse your views and happy to understand What I had expressed recently in a seminar organised by LNML MILS,Parel jountly by BMS n MILS, do match with your well researched thoughts. In a way wen one a person like me who is not so senior n highly experienced like you is delighted to know you hold more or less similar views as like we tradeunionists. However your views are more refined and provide us guidelines. Thank yous sir for the same.
I feel when a Hon PM of this country in his visits to fireign countries appeals ‘make in India we have cheap labour’ the direction is pretty clear that he is concerned about GDP nand not HDI. The various state govt of his party havr already initiated anti labour reforms which includes a draconian amendments in contract labour act. These are going to boost up and legalise contract labour which will deny even mjnimum wages and social security in industry including IT sector.

Brilliant Vivek. Another additional point is that the labour machinery is now encouraged by the governments in power to “look the other way”when they see non compliance by industry.

Very well researched, exhaustive and thought leading key note address!
The challenges and dilemma of labour reforms are brought succinctly.
Both of us have seen endless debates in our life on the subject workout much outcome.
Most of the areas in the labour and employer regulation is result of accidents called judicial pronouncement, that are more topical than in the context or towards larger purpose.
The reforms in the areas of taxation, industry regulation etc have definitely led to improvement and voluntary compliance.
It is to time to remove the shackles and take bold decisive steps at least once and allow advantage to employers.
They can be reined in any way at a later date if it does not work. Rather the suggestion being that the calibration cab happen on a fly to ensure balance.
Any way for unscrupulous employers reforms or no reforms, or for that matter laws do not make any difference. So why to bother.
Sabka sath Sabka vikas can happen if we allow some experimentation.
Unwillingness to pay political cost has coated is dearly on economic front.
There were always die hard opponnrnts to economic reforms that propelled the middle class explosion and growth. Both of us have experienced the dark ages of Indian economy.
The giant needs a chance to dance. Some experiences may be bitter, but not everything.
There is no such thing as controlled explosion.
Demonitation shall continue to be debated till cows come home. It’s merit and demerits may be lost in political battles. But it is a defining moment in the history of the country.
I feel the reforms are also a bitter medicine and the judge of its effect shall only be the time.
