Interesting. Many of ethical dillemmas are not easily amenable to a yes or no answer. HR professionals have the responsibility to find most appropriate answer and be able to decide or influence decision based on ethical consideration. Hr does occasionally have a role of conscience keeper of the organisation. Committment to ethical values is necessary and crucial for a longr term success of the organisation. I have had a few occasions of being a one man majority, and, contraary to common expectations in such a situation, I always emerged, succeessful and stronger with better than expected rewards.

Sir! Fantastic observations which are happening all around us in today’s organisations. Only it needs to be explored if any organisation has come up with a more acceptable decision conforming to their values & beliefs and at the same time meeting the situational requirements. It only confirms that HR managers also need to study quite a bit of philosophy to understand these things in detail.

The question to be remembered for life time is “Whether you see an organisation as a community or a property!”. As per my understanding the dilemma is not on values but about choosing between ‘what is convenient/good?’ and ‘what is right?’. The compass of value system always points at ‘What is right’.
