It is a reminder of the colonial days when people used to work under the British officers who used to abuse and get the work done through coercion. It is depressing to note that there are organisations which practice the same legacy even today when more and more people talk about workers' rights and collaborative efforts. It is more depressing when it comes from a place (Bengaluru) which is well known for its industrialization and which has a lot of Govt /non-govt bodies to look after the various aspects of business excellence.Surely there seems to be an involvement of the so called political interventions which are helping the management to go scot-free after all these atrocities.

This is so very sad and we must condemn it in the strongest possible manner. The ugly truth is that a lot of India's industry and the wealth of industrialists is built on the back of such practices. With unions losing their power and significance and the government machinery encouraged to look the other way, those that are exploited have very little say and representation. The economy is growing and those in the services sector having white collar jobs may also be growing but with these blue collar workmen including diploma engineers, their real wages I feel have actually gone down and the disparity is increasing and the difference in lifestyles is becoming vulgar. There is bound to be some social tensions leading to violence. Great of you to highlight these things.

Yes. Very depressing. Highly condemnable. In this most advanced age of people functions through technology, we are still in the stone age by mind set.
When HR person abuses an employee, does this really mean becoming a HR business partner?
Because business means......?

Horrible. Reminds me of a similar incidence in Nagpur several years ago where a foundry running employer got goons from his home state to beat his employees who were organising in an Union.
You pinned down the malady when you referred to the Govts (lack of) will to book the guilty. Currently they seem to be busy mimicking the opposition rather than paying attention on priority to such incidences.
