Harsh business decisions need to be taken. But HR n the Management must show a humane approach n do what they can to alleviate the suffering

This article reminds me to remain in touch with the human in me. It’s so easy to get numb to people’s pain even if they tell us.

Subtly acknowledging the agony and pain, this article makes me think how small issues in HR have everlasting effects on employees.

Feel frustrated my experience of 40 yrs in TU is useless , attempt yo contact management failed Govt authorities seem to be useless to help and couts so far have not helped ,Assuring worker that change in govt might help is the only hope

Closures and Redundancies are harsh reality of life! Even the management personnel cannot escape from it nowadays. That’s one reason why you find so many people resume around age group of 50 years floating in the industry looking for a job. I like the attitude of Nagendra and Ujjwala Patil. A true depiction of faith and resilience in life. Thank you Mr.Patwardhan for sharing this real life stories.

Dear Vivek Thanks for sharing one more reality …very sad that many people are going thru such bad times. The economic, social and emotional challenges are indeed tough to manage
These difficult developments continue and whilst I keep repeating that the RC and VRS amounts should be enhanced , that in itself will not suffice .
I feel that the Tripartite structure needs to seriously work on this issue. There are numerous examples of people post downsizing, going into newer vocations/self employment. This can be planned thru’ reskilling and training in different vocations/self employment amongst other schemes.
The reality is that closing of business, loss of formal jobs etc is quite frequent now . Bandhs and Protests are good till they last, but are not going to provide solutions. A lot of work needs to be done to address the issues. Being aware and acknowledging is just the first step.

love reading your articles.You have done a great service to HR profession by throwing light on dark side of these lives. We all must keep this aspect in mind too while “successfully and intelligently” completing the operation of closure and handing over the key of plant to employer.
This is nothing but pulling out the oxygen duct of employees in a moment mercilessly. Can Govt take care of this aspect while reforming labour regulations so that such employees get a life support for some time?
