Very positive sharing. What I would like to add that the individuals you mention...they started small. They took the small step because they believed in it they perhaps took the small step because they wanted the change for self...they didnot start with I need to "change the world" thought but I need to change to create the change. Leadership and recognition followed with that small step.

Very lengthy Blog on Leadership. I have come across many narratives on Leadership, listened to and observed many styles of Leadership. I fell still evolving to keep pace with the dynamics of Changed Miley and meet the expectations and aspirations of Contemporary Society. We want to believe in our Leaders. We We want to have faith and Confidence in them as followers. We want to
believe their Word can be trusted, that they have the knowledge and Skill to lead, and they are personally Excited and enthusiastic about the direction in which we are headed. In other words Credibility is the Foundation of Leadership. Credibility builds confidence, Confidence improves Followership, Followership promotes team and Team enables the Leader to realize his Dream through his Constituents who share the Common Values. Unfortunately Deficit Of Credibility haunts every Institutions resulting in Subpar performance.

As always interesting reading. I have been in leadership education since 1983 and have written several books on leadership. I believe that 'being yourself' is about authenticity. It is to know yourself, be clear about what differentiates you and practice that differentiation with confidence. And all this must be beneficial for all concerned.
Differentiation creates brand. Brand inspires loyalty. Loyalty enables influence. Influence is leadership. The core truth in all this is that personal authenticity must translate externally to truthfulness, compassion, courage, and persistence.

I highly recommend two books: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and Talent is Overrated by Geoff Colvin. Thanks Vivek for some great food for thought.

Very Interesting and I appreciate.
I also think that all of us are multiple " Yourselves"
What I am as a corporate leader in one environment I could be different leader in other environment.
What I am at family front could be of different flavour as the contests are different.
And "you" as alone have different "self". Though there will not be any contradiction in the leadership, it could be different facet invisible to others.

"whether or not to get influenced is their decision and they make it on the basis of what they can draw from you."

That's the influence paradox. If perceived as ethical, there's a good chance of the consummation of influence. If perceived as ethical, but yet not addressing the need of the people, influence is yet to take form.

I am left with wondering how information cascaded on the net breaches thresholds of ethics and algorithms of influence are computed as if the information is the differentiating need.

Not as simple, as in the days of Bennis. Not as ethical either.
