Disheartening that all the gains of Labour Rights Movements and Trade Unions of yesteryears, have been brought to nought in this technologically advanced age. One would think that the lives of humans should become more comfortable with advances in knowledge, science and technology. But it seems we have not evolved as humans ...we are still in the medieval ages, turning a blind eye to large sections of the population being relegated to a less than human life.

The Problems manifested at Wistron,
SVS Acqua Technologist and Recently at Foxcon do convey the same message.
That is; Day to Day Problems when left
unaddressed lead to avoidable confrontation.
In all these cases there it is very obvious
HR Dept OT acted Proactively, Mgmt abdicated their
Responsibility and the Government
Inspecting authorities failed in their duties.
Security of jobs and earnings are the
Primary Concern rather than assertion of
their rights to these employees.
Both in Wistron and Foxcon ,Audit by Apple after the event may not serve any purpose as these Companies have been
doing Sub Contract Work for No. of years
prior to these incidents.
Periodical Audit is a must.

Aravamudhan
Out sourcing governance perse is not bad
but Abdication Of Accountability by the Mgmt. Is harmful.

In my 16 years of dealing with unions, GMWU - Guyana Mine Workers Union - in Guyana (1979-83) where the Union President was the Minister of Mines and so the General Secretary ran the union and if there was an arbitration, guess who it went to? Then from 1983-93 in the plantation industry in South India (tea, coffee, rubber) dealing with CITU - Marxist - I learnt one thing and that is, that almost every union unrest is the result of management oppression. Businessmen are greedy. Indian businessmen are greedy and corrupt. They understand only one language and that is of protest. Sadly today, ever since the so-called opening of our economy, governments have become the willing slaves of businessmen. Especially today when donations to political parties have been made free from scrutiny about the source of funds. If you donate money to a charity, you must explain the source of your funds. But not if you donate to a political party. What is a bigger door to corruption than this? And all political parties are complicit in this as this was passed unanimously. The biggest challenge we have today is to instill ethics and morals in our society at large and in business in particular. Without that we are doomed.

The two examples referred, amount to they being bonded labour. They represent class of employers who unable to provide job satisfaction, money satisfaction and treatment satisfaction.
What matters is caring and sharing,n believing in dignity of labour.
We need to also look at companies who are bang opposite of the two examples quoted.

When image is the object of desire, it will be cared for.
When substance or content is the assurance of quality, it will be cared for.
When either is ignored, no amount of care can retrieve an illusory image or aspired quality.
Insensitivity is at the root of neglect.
