Dear Sir, Your words resonate deeply, shedding light on the often-overlooked emotional and social toll of job loss. The impact extends far beyond financial distress — it shakes confidence, strains relationships, and alters a person’s sense of self-worth.

I recall a CHRO once mentioning that individuals might face 3 job losses in their lifetime, but in today’s fast-changing world, that number is surely higher. What’s even more concerning is how our society, driven by profit and efficiency, seems to have normalized this insecurity.

Thank you for voicing this harsh reality. Your reflections are a reminder for those of us still in the workforce to show empathy and extend a helping hand to those navigating these difficult transitions.

Let’s hope that conversations like these inspire more compassionate leadership and stronger support systems for people during life’s inevitable downturns.

Warm regards,
Vinu Pillai

A very depressing and deeply inspiring story. This is a rare and contradictory admixture of emotions from one write up but I have to say it. I was profoundly moved and remain so. Vivek has yet again shone a torchlight upon our inner selves and liberated us, perhaps temporarily, from our humdrum concerns of daily lives. I thank you

I have also tried to migrate to Australia but that failed due to lack of documentry proof of jobs i did. I failed in UPSC Attempt and later tried to overcome it by several measures , but to boost income in india to respectable level - migration is only option. I am still stuck in india and trying to improve my condition by MBA - that too i am not completely sure will happen or not. Thank you for sharing story of Dipak and his family - it gives some hope.

At a societal level - due to sheer job scarcity and unlimited supply of labour - failure in something different costs more than just economic hardship. I see myself in that shoes and I am going through it.

Dipak's story is encouraging and and i wish(and hope) that everyone will able to live peaceful and healthy life.

Thanks Vivek for sharing excellent examples of ex employees reviving / taking charge of their careers after facing adversity.
It is heartening to know of such good initiatives in the cess pool of job losses.
I recall in the 70/80s getting ITI qualified technicians was not an easy task - hence training raw/ less qualified personnel operators was essential …
Things keep changing !!
Sad to see the increasing tendency/hurry to recruit only Diploma Engineers for Operator / technician roles . The ITI personnel are being taken on temporary jobs ?
Are these the best practices in HR?

Sad to read such true but bitter stories of workers who lost their jobs and finding difficult to make ends meet. Migration is one solution with attending challenges. Govt tries to support thru measures such as free ration , ladki bahen Yojana, skill development, free transport for ladies. But these are inadequate. Strong measures are necessary to create more employment.

Heart wrenching! This is real India. My heart goes to Deepak & Sonali and the millions like them.

What we need is building more temples in every street of our cities and villages. They will provide a great solace to the jobless and poor people; praying gods and spending time in and around temples will provide opportunities for meditation, which is the best known solution for all the ills and give strength to live life joyfully even in distress. Our citizens, rich and poor alike, will just love and appreciate it. We are a civilisation of thousands of years with great golden history. Let us perpetuate that glory. Amen.

Thanks for sharing Sir.

It was like a reality check for me to see the hard/ bitter truth of life at lower section of society. Although visible, but gets overlooked many times.

At the same time the lessons to be learnt from Deepak, to stay optimistic and never lose hope. He showcases the true spirit of a fighter and leaves a message to everyone that if he can at his age, so can everyone.

He reminds me of a song, sung by Manoj Kumar in one of his movie… Jeevan Chalne ka naam… chalte raho subah Shaam…
