Street Photography in London

Street photography is my passion. London offers exquisite street photography opportunities because the light keeps changing, the angle at which it comes is also different than Mumbai, and if you move away from the Central London, the skyline is low.

This bridge is my favourite location for photography. It is a rail bridge, and sunlight comes in at an angle, so we see reflection of the light on the ceiling (or the base of the bridge, whichever way you would like to see) which is made of many horizontal logs. A lady was moving towards the light.

National Gallery is a great place to practice street photography. I saw people taking selfies, but this caught my attention.

And perhaps this man was waiting for someone. Overlooking the Trafalgar Square.

And a couple deeply engrossed in happy discussion. What a beautiful moment!

It is such a pleasure to watch an artist totally engrossed in sketching, making art. One gets to see many artists in National Gallery.

The Bentall Centre at Kingston is a mall I often go to. It has a beautiful ceiling.

And I have often seen this musician playing saxophone in the vicinity of Bentall. I have clicked his photographs earlier too. But this moment was captivating. It was pure magic. He played a short tune for the little boy. Wasn’t that very sweet of him? Ty Holland said, “A photograph is the pause button on life.” I remember it when I see this photograph.

One can create beautiful spaces anywhere. That’s what Bentall tells us. Look at this photograph taken at Waterloo Railway Station.

And this taken from another angle. Perspective makes a huge difference.

People wait for their train. The huge electronic board tells the stations it will take and the platform where it will come to. This is an interesting sight to watch.

And then there are several gates where one taps his/ her card and enters the station. I found a moment when there was no rush, but only one lady was about to cross over.

My mobile phone comes very handy for street photography. I do not have a conventional camera. I do not need it too. “When people ask me what equipment I use – I tell them my eyes.” (Not my words – someone has said it!)
